Rhodes Scholarships at University of Oxford in UK 2022

[ad_1]

The University of Oxford in the UK invites applications for the 2021/2022 Rhodes Scholarships for Kenya students.

The Rhodes Scholarships is the oldest (first awarded in 1902) and perhaps most prestigious international scholarship programme, enabling outstanding young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford.

One of the founding aims of the Scholarship was to identify young leaders from around the world who, through the pursuit of education together at Oxford, would forge bonds of mutual comprehension and fellowship for the advancement of mankind. Although the language is old-fashioned, this remains one of the founding aims of the Scholarship: to select outstanding young people, with the potential to lead, who will make an impact for good in the world in later life.

Each year, there are two Rhodes Scholarships available for Kenyan students.

Worth of Rhodes Scholarships

  • The Rhodes Scholarships is for two years in the first instance. The Rhodes Scholarships provides Oxford University (and College) fees and also providing a yearly stipend. For the 2021/22 academic year, the stipend will be £15,900 per annum (£1,325 per month) from which Scholars pay all living expenses, including accommodation.
  • Furthermore to the above, the Rhodes Trust will provide two economy class flights – to and from the UK – for the start and conclusion of studies in Oxford. On arrival in Oxford, Scholars receive a settling in allowance (£225 in 2019-20). For those Scholars who transition to a second course of study in Oxford, they will again receive assistance to cover the fee for visa renewal and further application for IHS. After selection for the Scholarship award, the Rhodes Trust will also provide the application fee needed to apply to study at the University of Oxford.
  • A number of research awards are also obtainable to Rhodes Scholars, on application, which enables Scholars to, for example, attend international workshops or carry out additional fieldwork.

Eligibility for Rhodes Scholarships

Rhodes Selection Committees are looking for young people of outstanding intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service.

The four criteria which governed the selection of Rhodes Scholars in 1902 are still the guiding criteria for the selection of Rhodes Scholars:

  • energy to use one’s talents to the full (as demonstrated by mastery in areas such as sports, music, debate, dance, theatre, and artistic pursuits, particularly where teamwork is involved)

    OR (for older candidates)
  • You should not have reached your 27th birthday (i.e. have been born after 1 October 1994) AND you have met or will meet the requirements for completion of your first degree on or after 1 October 2020*.
