International Major Entrance Scholarships (IMES) are granted to excellent foreign students getting into first year programs at UBC. Candidates obtain their IMES when they get into their first year at UBC, and the scholarship awards are renewable for up to three extra years of study. The number and level of these scholarship awards granted every year vary, based on available funding. When you obtain an award or scholarship, you become a member of a community of involved and supportive young leaders who augment UBC with their diverse perspectives, participation, and innovation.

Eligibility for International Major Entrance Scholarship (IMES) at University of British Columbia
To be considered for the IMES, you must:
- be new to UBC, coming in directly from high school or post-secondary (university or college)
- be a foreign student who will be schooling at UBC on a Canadian study visa (student visa). (Modifications to your citizenship status will have an effect on your IMES eligibility.)
- display excellent academic accomplishment and intellectual promise, and also impressive extracurricular and community participation.
- Not be recommended for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars scholarship.
How to Apply for International Major Entrance Scholarship (IMES) at University of British Columbia
If you submit an application to UBC by January 15, you will be given automatic consideration for the IMES. The moment you obtain an offer of admission to UBC, you’ll be given automatic consideration for these merit-based scholarship awards. Consideration is on the basis of your exhibited academic accomplishment and your extracurricular participation.
Scholarship status
You will be assessed for this scholarship award soon after you obtain an offer of admission to UBC. Scholarship award decisions are made between mid-March to the end of April every year.
